About National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The week is recognised nationally from 27 May to 3 June and commemorates two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Join us to mark National Reconciliation Week in the City of Melville with a month of free events celebrating the history, culture, achievements and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We invite you to place reconciliation in your heart, mind and actions as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Reconciliation at the Library

During 2025 National Reconciliation Week, our libraries launched a special edition library card - the Reconciliation Card to symbolise our shared commitment to reconciliation. New and existing members can visit your local library to swap your existing card or sign up. The card features the artwork 'Beeliar Boodja' created by young people from our Willagee community as part of the Connection to Country program.

Our library team curated a collection of First Nations authors for you to enjoy, scroll down to see the book titles selected for 2025 or visit your local library to find out more.
