Booking your verge collections
City of Melville residents are eligible to book a verge collection service each calendar year. You're eligible for:
- Two (2) Garden Organics Verge Collections at a maximum volume of three cubic metres (3m3) per collection. All Garden Organics must be placed in ONE pile for collection.
- One (1) Bulk Waste Verge Collection at a maximum volume of three cubic metres (3m3). You can also place on your verge:
- Mattresses (up to three)
- White goods (up to three)
- Electronic waste

All bookings are subject to availability. Book in advance - do not leave it late. The best months to secure a booking are between March and September.

Item lists, limits and how to place
Important updates and information to know before booking your collections.How to place your waste on the verge:
- Please note - we do not use skip bins. Place items directly on your verge.
- To avoid others illegally dumping on your verge, we recommend placing items out 48 hours prior to your scheduled booking (where possible), and make sure it's on your verge by 6.00am on collection day.
- Ceate four (4) distinct piles on your verge for white goods (3 max), mattresses (3 max), e-waste and other general bulky items. This helps us safely collect items and organise them on our truck for our recycling contractors.
- Piles should be at least 30cm away from roads and footpaths, and not obstructing or leaning on fences, poles, structures or utilities.
How much you can dispose of per bulk waste collection (volume limits):
Your waste should cover an area no larger than three cubic metres (3m3) total. For example, a pile 2m long by 1m wide by 1.5m high equals three cubic metres. A standard king size mattress covers around one cubic metre. Please note that we cannot collect items longer than 1.5 metres, excluding household mattresses and fridges.
We accept these common household items:
- Furniture (no glass tables)
- Bicycles
- Toys
- Small electrical goods
- Carpet and linoleum
- Fencing materials (wood and steel only)
- Wood (not garden waste)
- Wire
- Gates
- BBQs (not gas bottles)
- Bulk large cardboard
- Mattresses and bases (3 maximum)
- White goods (3 maximum)
- E-waste (E.g. TVs, computers, kitchen appliances)
We do not accept:
- Vehicles, car bodies, car parts or tyres
- Batteries (unless embedded in an electronic device. E.g. laptops)
- Asbestos or fibre cement products
- Building materials
- Soil, sand, bricks, rubble or concrete
- Glass items and glass panels which could shatter (e.g. table tops or window panes. Non-shattering glass, such as TV screens are okay)
- Gas bottles, flammable liquids, chemicals and other hazardous items/materials
- Beanbags (beans will escape into the environment. Please securely place this in your general waste. You may need to stagger it over a few weeks)
- Anything included as part of a garden organics verge collection

How to place your garden waste on the verge:
- Please note - we do not use skip bins. Place material directly on your verge.
- Cut logs and stumps into smaller pieces. We cannot collect items thicker than 350mm (slightly larger than a basketball) or longer than 1.5 metres.

We do not accept:
- Plastic bags (and please don't place organic waste in these)
- Chemically treated or painted/stained timber
- Large tree stumps (they must be cut into smaller pieces)
- Building materials
- Rocks, bricks or rubble
- Soil or sand
- Flower pots or garden hoses or tools
- General waste
- Fencing materials
- Lawn turf
- Asbestos products
- Small organics which could fit into your FOGO bin (leaves or food scraps)
- Anything included as part of a bulk general waste collection.
- You must book your collection before placing items out.
- In our booking form, you must first enter your address before selecting a collection date.
- Do not leave it late - book as soon as possible. The most available, best months to book are March to September, with the summer period being the busiest.
- Our standard wait times for bookings is two (2) to four (4) weeks. Unpredictable surges in bookings may occur. We’re continuously modifying our service in this early stage to adapt to these challenges.
- This is not a skip bin service. You should place waste directly onto your verge.
- Garden Organics Disposal for Qfly affected areas. Residents are advised of new requirements that will impact how they dispose of fruits and cuttings from host plants. - Host a stall at the Melville Markets - hugely popular Sunday market with thousands of visitors.

Between March and September will usually have the most choice of bookable dates, while warmer months, October to February, tend to fill up quickly. We aim for two (2) to four (4) week wait times and are adapting our service regularly to meet this.
Your location will determine which days of the week are available to book (you might be able to book fortnightly Mondays only, for example), so please also check 4 to 6 weeks into the future for available dates. We aim for standard wait times of 4 weeks.
‘Zoning’ our collections like this helps our service remain efficient and reduces emissions and time constraints. The table below describes our different zones and collection days. Still, the best way to check which dates are available to you is during the booking process.

If you use our verge collections, your items will follow the journey as follows:
E-waste
E-waste is collected in our flat-bed truck and taken to our Operations Centre, Murdoch, for short-term stockpiling. We collect an approximate average of 258 e-waste items at an average of 1,945kg per month. It is then picked up by Total Green Recycling for processing at their Welshpool facility. Total Green Recycling recovers approximately 83% of material - mostly metals, glass and hazardous components like embedded batteries and circuit boards.White goods
White goods, such as fridges and washing machines, are collected in our flat-bed truck and taken to our Operations Centre, Murdoch, for short-term stockpiling. They are then de-gassed and picked up by Sims Metal for processing at their Kwinana facility. Sims Metal recovers around 70% of this material (mostly light gauge steel components) at an average of 8,800kg per month from our verge collection service.Mattresses
Mattresses are collected in our flat-bed truck and taken to our Operations Centre, Murdoch, for short-term stockpiling. We collect an approximate average of 202 mattresses per month. They’re then collected by Perth Mattress & Furniture Recycling Company for processing at their Welshpool facility. Perth Mattress & Furniture Recycling recover up to80% of material from mattresses, including springs for scrap, timber for industrial mulch or engineered timber, and foam for carpet underlay.General bulk waste
We collect an approximate average of 133 tonnes of mixed bulk verge waste per month. This waste is typically loaded into a rear-loader waste truck and delivered directly to Veolia’s Bibra Lake facility for processing. Veolia recovers approximately 31% of this material – mostly scrap metal, fines and timber. Excess is sent to landfill at Veolia North Bannister Resource Recovery Park.Garden organics waste
Green waste is collected in a rear-loader FOGO truck and taken directly to the Resource Recovery Group Canning Vale FOGO processing facility (the same place as your FOGO bin waste). We collect an approximate average of 120 tonnes per month with materials recovery being close to 100%.You can cancel your collection via the link in your booking confirmation email no later than seven (7) days before your booked collection date.
If you don't have a booking confirmation email, or if it's less than seven days before your booked date, please contact our Customer Relations team. We will always try to accommodate you.
Once we've confirmed your booking cancellation, you can re-book online or over the phone.
If you've missed a collection due to emergency, please contact our Customer Relations team and be ready to provide evidence of some kind (e.g. a doctor's note, a police report).
If you live in apartments or units, have your strata contact us to organise a group collection.
- Provide collections when the community need it, at a date convenient to them, rather than people holding onto things (or scrambling to find things) to throw out when we visit their area.
- Encourage people to participate in the circular economy by rehoming items. Landfill is our last resort while your items still have use.
- Have more oversight and control for better compliance, safety and reporting transparency by running the service fully in-house.
- Lessen illegal dumping opportunities by non-residents.
- No, you will not receive a skip bin of any kind. Items should be placed directly on the verge.
Your waste must be ready for collection on your verge by latest 6.00am on your booked day.
