MelSafe is the City of Melville’s integrated community safety and compliance service, bringing together Rangers, Parking & Compliance Patrols, and the Community Safety Service into one coordinated team.

What MelSafe does (at a glance)
Community safety and patrols
- High-visibility patrols across neighbourhoods and activity centres
- Attend and monitor after you’ve contacted police, relaying intelligence to assist investigations
- Holiday Patrols - if you're away from your home for an extended period of time, register your home for a Holiday Patrol. Our MelSafe Officers will patrol your property regularly and will contact you or a designated contact person if anything seems out of the ordinary.
Compliance and Local Laws
MelSafe is your one-stop shop for local compliance matters, handling everything from parking to public space amenity.- Parking enforcement — including 24-hour coverage where required, ensuring safety, turnover, and accessibility
- Verge compliance — managing obstructions, hazards, and unauthorised use of verges
- Fire compliance - enforcement of the rules around firebreaks
- Noise complaints — attending noisy parties, persistent disturbances, and late-night disruptions
- Animal management — dog control, nuisance complaints, and safe cat trapping in line with the City’s new Cat Local Law
- Local law enforcement — addressing illegal dumping, misuse of public spaces, unsightly properties, and other breaches
- Abandoned/unregistered vehicles — investigation and coordination for removal
- Event & public space compliance — ensuring permits, accessibility, and safety requirements are met
Emergency & Incident Support
- Assistance to WA Police, DFES, SES, and St John Ambulance
- Scene safety, cordons, welfare checks, and traffic/pedestrian guidance
- Rapid deployment of mobile CCTV trailers and relocatable units to support prevention, response, and investigations
Working together with the WA Police
MelSafe works hand-in-hand with WA Police and emergency agencies, providing on-the-ground intelligence and evidence that makes responses faster and more effective.
- City-wide intelligence sharing and hot spot targeting
- Deployment of mobile CCTV to priority areas
- Evidence support (body-worn footage, CCTV, officer reports)
- Coordination with DFES and WA Police during emergencies for scene management, welfare support, community recovery and local presence
MelSafe officers
MelSafe officers are qualified, professional, and community-focused.
Core requirements:
- Senior First Aid
- Annual police clearance
- Specialist training in dog handling, evidence collection, and working alongside police investigators
Who they are:
- Many bring backgrounds in policing, military, or emergency services, which bring discipline, resilience, and practical know-how
- Others are local residents, who understand the community because they live here too
- All are selected for their ability to balance authority with respect and approachability, working with you to solve problems

Our fully electric Tesla Model Y fleet reflects the City’s commitment to sustainability and smart service delivery.
We equip our officers with technology that supports fairness, transparency, and accountability:
- Onboard CCTV: Helps manage parking turnover, access, and community safety fairly and consistently
- Fixed and mobile camera enforcement: Combines vehicle-mounted and static cameras to make parking compliance reliable and transparent
- Body-worn cameras: Enhance officer safety, capture reliable evidence, and reassure the community — supported by clear City policies on when and how footage is used
- Mobile CCTV trailers: Rapidly deployed to deter antisocial behaviour and assist with investigations
- GPS-enabled dispatch and secure comms: Ensures the closest, best-equipped resource responds quickly
