We have a bold vision of a future Melville City Centre that will see our current civic library site transformed into an exciting new cultural centre. The future Melville City Centre will be a place for people to gather and connect, experience culture, arts, events, entertainment and excellent dining, and will be a place to enjoy and celebrate with friends and family.

Melville City Centre Structure Plan

The Melville City Centre Structure Plan guides the future redevelopment of the area.

The Plan provides for the activity centre to transition over time from a suburban shopping centre to a mixed use city centre. An important project related to the future City Centre vision is Westfield Booragoon which as a key shoppertainment destination, could connect to the future library and cultural centre, and surrounds, to become an essential part of the vibrant heart and centre of our community and City.

You can view a hard copy of the Plan by visiting the Planning and Building Counter at the City of Melville Civic Centre, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon.

Westfield Booragoon Redevelopment

  • In late 2019, we welcomed an announcement by Scentre Group of their 50% interest acquisition in the former Garden City Shopping Centre, which they quickly rebranded Westfield Booragoon. More information is available at www.westfield.com.au/booragoon
  • At the meeting held on 9 February 2023, the Western Australian Planning Commission granted approval with conditions for the expansion of the existing centre. A copy of the agenda and minutes can be accessed on the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage website under Part 17 Significant Development by clicking on this link
