Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is a WA Police program to help neighbours watch out for neighbours. The program aims to prevent crime by encouraging neighbours to recognise and report suspicious activity to police, and to make their homes less inviting for opportunistic offenders.
The City of Melville provides funding support to the local NHW Committee. The City of Melville NHW Committee work to create welcoming, friendly, safe and secure neighbourhoods by:
- Reporting suspicious information to police
- Sharing community safety and crime prevention information to their local community social media groups
- Hosting information stalls and events to encourage connected communities and to raise awareness of safety and crime prevention
- Organising and attending NHW Committee meetings where information is shared by local police and MelSafe
- Contributing content for MelSafe eNews
How to be part of NHW
Your neighbours will be first to notice a suspicious person at your door. Police on patrol may not recognise a stranger in your yard, but your neighbour will. By knowing your neighbours you will recognise someone or something that is suspicious.
- Get to know your neighbours and swap contact details if you’re comfortable to do so
- Look out for and report suspicious behaviour
- Subscribe to receive MelSafe eNews
- Connect to your local police @PalmyraPol or @MurdochPol on Twitter
- Like the Fremantle District – WA Police Force Facebook page
- Join Bikelinc to have the best chance of your bike being returned to you if it ever gets stolen
- Contact the Melville NHW Chairperson Atul Garg on [email protected] if you would like to support the City of Melville NHW Committee as a volunteer
