Youth Sports Scholarship
Jaxon Neill second from right, was recruited by the Australian Volleyball Academy in 2025 and moved to Canberra before injury forced him back to Perth. He says his City of Melville Youth Sport Scholarship, with free gym and pool access, is helping him build some ‘serious strength’ so he can return to the sport a better player post-injury
Grab the chance to fast-track your sporting dreams
Jaxon Neill was just one of 36 athletes recruited by the Australian Volleyball Academy this year and his story of sporting success and overcoming injury is just one of many to come from the winners of our Youth Sport Scholarships.
Since their inception, our scholarships have gone to a huge variety of exceptional young Melville sports people including cyclist, sailors, kite surfers, water skiers and many more.
The Youth Sports Scholarships 2025 are now open for nominations, and we encourage you to grab this chance for a year’s free membership to the City’s recreation centres.
We invite young people in the City of Melville aged 12 to 19 who are having success in their chosen sport, to apply.
The Scholarship is designed to support our young sportspersons during their teenage years, a time when both risk of drop-out is higher and junior athletes start to take their sport more seriously and are interested in competing at a higher level.

The City of Melville gym sponsorship has helped my off water fitness and strength to perform better on the water! I have found a huge difference in my performance results since going to the gym and working on other aspects of fitness. I have the Junior world championships coming up in less than a month so i’m training hard off the water so my body will be in perfect shape. Thank you for the amazing opportunity.
My training schedules were hectic leading up to the tournament, but having access to the gym and pool at the rec centers was an enormous help with my strength and conditioning work which was required 3 times a week on top of my pool sessions.
Since being granted the Youth Sports Scholarship I've had a very successful 12 months.
