Upgraded facilities at Southside BMX Club provide modern amenities to riders.

Riders at Southside BMX Club in Bull Creek are off and racing with improved facilities, following an upgrade by the City of Melville.

The $1.18 million new sports changeroom and club building at Bob Gordon Reserve was officially opened on Wednesday, 19 November by the City of Melville Mayor Katy Mair and Member for Riverton Dr Jags Krishnan MLA.

The upgrade, which received $300,000 in support from the WA Government, includes toilets, showers, sports changerooms, storage, a kiosk and undercover servery, as well as a cantilevered undercover space to the side of the building.

Southside BMX is the oldest and largest BMX club in Western Australia operating for over 40 years and has been instrumental in attracting female and young riders through its Girls in BMX and Mini Wheelers programs.

The new upgrade will enable Southside BMX to host high level competitive events like the State Championships as it now has the appropriate facilities required by Auscycling.

The project is part of the City’s overall strategy to provide multi-purpose places and facilities to encourage healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.

Comments attributed to City of Melville Mayor Katy Mair:

The City of Melville is excited that the $1.18 million upgrade at Southside BMX Club is now complete giving riders and visitors to the club access to much needed sports changeroom, storage and kiosk facilities,” said Mayor Mair.

I would like to thank the WA Government for their $300,000 contribution towards the upgrade.

The City of Melville acknowledges the importance of healthy lifestyles and sporting clubs like Southside BMX play an integral role in achieving this goal, and so it is only fitting that the club has a place where members and family can meet, get changed safely, store equipment and escape the elements.

It’s fantastic to see riders as young as two and as old as 55 hanging out together at the new facility which I am sure will benefit generations of BMX enthusiasts for years to come.
